MINEOLA, N.Y. — A Long Island woman who pleaded guilty to violently shaking her infant daughter has been sentenced to four years in prison.
Prosecutors say Ann Candanedo of Elmont was sentenced by a Nassau County judge on Thursday.
The 25-year-old woman pleaded guilty to reckless assault of a child in May.
Prosecutors say the woman shook her then-8-month-old daughter in January when she didn’t stop crying. She called 911 when the baby became unresponsive.
The infant’s injuries included brain swelling. Prosecutors say it’s unclear whether she’ll make a full recovery.
The child, along with her twin brother and their three older siblings, is in the custody of the county’s social services department.
