TRENTON, N.J. — Talk wasn’t cheap for two brothers who admitted smuggling cell phones into a New Jersey prison.

Angel Vasquez received a seven-year sentence Monday that will be tacked on to the 50-year sentence he’s been serving for manslaughter since 1994. His brother Justiniano, of the Bronx, also pleaded guilty and faces sentencing in September.

The brothers admitted running a scheme at Northern States Prison in Newark to smuggle heroin and pre-paid cell phones. The scheme involved former corrections officer Luis Roman.

Roman pleaded guilty in April to racketeering and official misconduct. He faces sentencing in October and could face 14 years behind bars. He admitted he smuggled contraband into the prison in his protective vest and boots.

More than 30 people were charged in the scheme last September.
