Joe Halderman, the former CBS News producer who served time for trying to blackmail David Letterman, is back on the TV beat.

Halderman is working as a producer for ID’s “On the Case with Paula Zahn,” according to tvnewser.com.

The former “48 Hours” producer pleaded guilty last year to trying to squeeze Letterman for $2 million in 2009 — threatening to expose the “Late Show” host’s affair with staffer Stephanie Birkitt, Halderman’s former girlfriend, unless Letterman coughed up the dough.

Letterman pre-empted Halderman by going to the cops, then admitted the affair on his show.

Halderman, who served four months of a six-month sentence, was hired by “On the Case” executive producer Scott Weinberger, a former Ch. 2 and Ch. 4 crime reporter.

Halderman will work behind-the-scenes, according to the report.

“On behalf of ‘On The Case’s’ production team, we have been impressed with Joe Halderman’s professional accomplishments as an Emmy award-winning producer for ’48 Hours’ and CBS News,” said in a statement. “With the network’s prior approval, the team has brought Halderman on as a producer for ‘On The Case.'”
