HARTFORD, Conn. — An Ivy League professor whose first and last names are the same as a man accused of killing a Wesleyan University coed is suing the school — for circulating his photo instead of the suspect’s and then dragging its feet when he asked officials to correct the error.

The photo on Stephen L. Morgan’s old Massachusetts driver’s license appeared on news Web sites worldwide during the manhunt for Stephen P. Morgan, accused of stalking and shooting Johanna Justin-Jinich, 21, in a bookstore near campus on May 6.

Stephen L. Morgan, 38, is a Cornell University sociology professor who heads that school’s Center for the Study of Inequality.

Stephen P. Morgan, 29, who once shared an NYU class with Justin-Jinich, is described by his father as a journal-scribbling loner known to make anti-Semitic comments.
