MINEOLA, N.Y. — A New York prosecutor has announced the indictment of two Long Island men on felony animal cruelty charges.

The prosecutor says numerous pit bulls were found in kennels in the backyard of the home. She adds that some of the animals had fresh wounds, apparently from recent fights.

Marlon Bernier was held on $25,000 bail following his Friday arraignment. He was convicted last year of misdemeanor animal cruelty,

Ricardo Louis was arraigned last month. Bail information on his case was not immediately available.

Bernier’s attorney, William Kephart, says his client “steadfastly denies” the charges. An attorney for Louis did not immediately return a call for comment.
