A miffed prosecutor blasted pharmaceutical millionaire Gigi Jordan on trial for murdering her severely autistic son for falsely claiming to a news reporter she’d turned down a plea deal that would have resulted in a brief prison stint.
“Miss Jordan claims she turned down plea bargains. There has never been a plea bargain in this case,” said fuming prosecutor Matthew Bogdanos. “We have never ever made an offer or plea bargain to Miss Jordan period.”
The interview with the Wall Street Journal took place Wednesday evening at Rikers Island a few hours after both sides delivered their closing arguments in the six-week trial.
Jordan claimed to the reporter that she declined an offer from the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office to plead guilty by reason of insanity in exchange for a shorter prison term, according to the article.
Justice Charles Solomon chastised the defense for making the fictitious representation. “I don’t like lies,” he said. “There has never ever ever been a plea offer discussed here.”
Defense lawyer Norman Siegel then told the judge that Jordan may have been misquoted.
Jude MirraGregory P. Mango.“You’re saying she didn’t say that?” the judge asked.
“I’m not saying anything. I don’t have enough information to respond,” he backed down.
The judge then asked that the jurors, who are beginning their second day of deliberations, be ushered into the courtroom.
Jordan, 53, fed her son a fatal dose of prescription pills at a swank Manhattan hotel in February of 2010.
At trial, she took the stand and claimed she committed the horrific crime because she believed her ex-husband was going to kill her and her eight-year-old would end up in the custody of his abusive biological father.
