What a bunch of trash-holes!
Vandals totally trashed Brooklyn’s Prospect Park overnight, knocking over virtually every garbage can and leaving a blanket of rubbish scattered all around the beloved green space, officials said Wednesday.
The Prospect Park Alliance, which manages the 526-acre park, tweeted photos Wednesday morning showing a massive amount of litter strewn across several different areas of the park’s grass and even in a pond.
The alliance called it a “significant act of vandalism in the park last evening” in the tweet.
The city Parks Department told The Post on Wednesday that essentially every garbage can in the green space — roughly 50 — was overturned by the miscreants, leaving trash spread throughout the park.
It appears that the dirty delinquents responsible for the destruction started at one end of the sprawling park and made their way to the other, the Parks Department said.
“We were disappointed and saddened by the vandalism that took place in Prospect Park overnight,” Parks Department spokeswoman Anessa Hodgson said in a statement.
Roughly 50 trash cans were pushed over by vandals, according to the city Parks Department. @prospect_park TwitterThe mess sparked a large-scale cleanup effort at the park — with dozens of volunteers pitching in — and the garbage was mostly cleared out by noon Wednesday, Hodgson said.
“While acts like these are disheartening, they also help remind us all of the power of support, collective efforts, and volunteerism,” said Hodgson. “Together our maintenance staff, along with the Prospect Park Alliance staff, and at least 30 local volunteers have already largely cleaned up this mess caused by menaces.”
The agency said the city Parks Enforcement Patrol and the NYPD have been notified of the incident.
Parks Enforcement Patrol officers will continue to monitor the area, the Parks Department said.
