Rabble rousing lawmaker Charles Barron railed Monday against the rookie cop who shot and killed Akai Gurley in a dark housing-project stairwell – urging protesters to “rise up” in the pursuit of justice.

“Unlike my colleagues, I am not calling for peace and calm. I’m calling for us to be hot,” state Assemblyman-elect Barron said, standing beside Gurley’s gal pal, Melissa Butler, at a press conference outside the Brooklyn District Attorney’s office.

“If you want somebody to be peaceful and calm, tell the police to be peaceful and calm!”

He also demanded that Officer Peter Liang, who fired the single shot that killed the 28-year-old Gurley on Thursday night at East New York’s Louis Pink Houses, be charged with criminally negligent homicide.

“This was not an accident,” he said. “It was a crime. He should be indicted and brought before a court and I believe convicted and thrown under the jail for taking the life of an innocent young man.”

If it happens again, Barron said, “We are going to protect ourselves by any means necessary.”

The activist’s cutting comments came after Barron and Butler met with Brooklyn DA Ken Thompson, who is investigating the devastating incident.

“He discharged his weapon intentionally, and he took a life and he should pay for that,” Barron said.

“There’s no accidental discharge. You did it deliberately because you were scared. You should have pulled out your flashlight.”

Gurley’s death was ruled a homicide on Sunday evening by the Medical Examiner’s office.

“The District Attorney has promised a full and fair investigation and will make a determination based on the facts and the law,” DA spokeswoman Lupe Todd said Monday.
