Rikers Island should be shut down because a descendant of the complex’s namesake was a notorious slave-catcher, protesters demanded Saturday.

The demonstrators at the Queens end of the Rikers Island bridge want the prison included on Mayor de Blasio’s list of “symbols of hate’’ facing possible shutdown or removal. A city spokesman said the island isn’t a part of the review.

The activists waved signs reading, “Confederate monument’’ and “torture.’’

“Rikers Island has a long history of being owned by slave owners,’’ charged protester Alfredo Carrasquillo. He said de Blasio’s 10-year timeline for closing it down is too long.

The mayor wants it replaced with more “humane,’’ smaller jails.
