HUNTER, N.Y. — State police say one man has died and another has been charged with driving while intoxicated after a one-car crash in the northern Catskills.

Troopers say 41-year-old Eric Powell of Tannersville was driving on a Greene County road early Sunday morning when the car slammed into a telephone pole in the town of Hunter, 38 miles southwest of Albany.

Police say a passenger, 42-year-old Joshua Menzie of Lake Carmel in Putnam County, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Powell and another passenger were injured and transported to Albany Medical Center. Their conditions weren’t immediately available Monday morning.

Powell has been charged with driving while intoxicated. Troopers say other charges are pending.

It couldn’t be immediately determined if Powell had a lawyer.
