Vincent Leibell won’t take office as Putnam County executive on Jan. 1 amid reports that he faces a legal proceeding in White Plains, according to a new report.

Leibell, considered the most powerful politician in Putnam County, resigned his state Senate seat this week, which was earlier than expected, LoHud.com reported.

Federal investigators in June subpoenaed records relating to a home that he built in Patterson, LoHud reported.

County officials declined to explain why Leibell won’t take office but Vincent Tamagna, the chairman of the county’s Legislature, confirmed that he’s working on a transition government, LoHud.com reported.
