The 6-acre site of the old Elmhurst Gas Tanks in Queens was opened yesterday by Mayor Bloomberg as the city’s newest park in a $20 million makeover that took five years to complete.

The site of the two landmark natural-gas storage structures was turned over to the city by the energy company KeySpan for one dollar in 2005.
