A Queens father who shook and punched his eight-month-old son to death pleaded guilty today to the heinous crime.

Saul Cortez, 25 admitted to Queens Supreme Court Justice Richard Buchter that while he was watching his son, Mario, on April 5, 2010 he became frustrated and angry with the baby’s crying and so repeatedly shook and punched the infant in the back.

Cortez, of Arverne, pleaded guilty to assault and manslaughter and will be sentenced to 18 years in prison on June 6. He faces deportation to Mexico upon completion of his sentence.

Baby Mario succumbed to his injuries after he was hospitalized with lacerations to the liver, injuries to his eyes, fractured ribs and brain injuries.

As a condition to his plea, Cortez will participate in an educational video on the effects of Shaken Baby Syndrome, according to prosecutors from the Queens DA’s office.
