The hit-and-run driver who killed a Queens bar owner last month in a horrific head-on smash-up was apprehended earlier today in Connecticut, police said.
Peter Rodriguez, 36, was nabbed by the Regional Fugitive Task Force after investigators received an anonymous tip on his whereabouts to the NYPD CrimeStoppers hotline, sources said.
Rodriguez was allegedly driving his girlfriend’s Chrysler Sebring the wrong way on the Long Island Expressway’s service road, near 58th Road, on at 6:30 a.m. Oct. 15 when he slammed into a livery cab carrying George Gibbons, 37.
The impact sent Gibbons flying through the cab and his lifeless body landed in the lap of the driver, cops said.
The unidentified cabby, 59, was treated at Elmhurst Hospital.
Rodriguez and his passenger, Andre McKanney, 44, of Jamaica, Queens, both ran off, cops said. McKanney later returned and was arrested for pot possession.
Rodriguez is expected to be extradited later today or tomorrow, police said.
