Ailing Peninsula Hospital laid off 200 workers yesterday — a week after state health officials shut the hospital’s lab and inpatient services after finding a “danger and threat to patient safety.”

The Far Rockaway, Queens, hospital described the across-the-board pink slips of inpatient staff as temporary. The workers will be rehired when the state Health Department reopens the lab and allows Peninsula to begin admitting patients again.

“We are working diligently to reopen the lab. When the Department of Health signs off, we will move forward,” said hospital spokeswoman Liz Sulik.

She said the hospital decided to lay off the workers to conserve resources after discussions with Local 1199 of the Service Employees International Union. The workers will be able to collect unemployment and other union benefits.

Sulik said that “without one doubt” Peninsula, which is in bankruptcy, will be fully functioning again.

She said the hospital’s outpatient services remain open.
