Quilter: ‘Sew’ sue me!
This fight over quilting is turning into a beach-blanket brawl.
The Brooklyn firm Come Quilt With Me last week sued Hawaii-based Quilt Passions over plans to organize competing retreats for sewing aficionados.
The scrap began soon after the Quilting on the Beach Retreat 2012 in Hawaii in February. Bad blood brewed between the organizers, says the suit, filed in Brooklyn federal court.
Come Quilt owner Pat Yamin now claims she owns the phrase “quilting on the beach” and wants Karen Barry, her counterpart in Hawaii, to stop using it.
But Barry said, “It’s a gentle world. Quilters just don’t get upset about things.”
