City Council Speaker Christine Quinn yesterday ripped into Mayor Bloomberg’s Human Resources commissioner for proposing a slash in services in next year’s budget for AIDS sufferers.
“The most significant thing I have done in my entire career in city government is being part of the effort to pass Local 49,” she said, referring to a 1997 law that mandates certain services for New Yorkers diagnosed with AIDS or HIV.
HRA Commissioner Robert Doar is proposing to cut the number of case managers in the HIV/AIDS program and to discontinue its nutrition contract because the state has ended reimbursement.
