A raccoon took a stroll on some Bronx subway tracks and was injured by a train Friday, halting service for several hours, city transit officials said.

The critter hopped the rails on the Longwood Avenue station’s southbound track around 11:45 a.m. when an incoming No. 6 train rolled through, hitting the animal and activating the train’s brakes. The injured raccoon then hobbled down the tracks while MTA workers shut down power so animal-control workers could rescue it, officials said.

The raccoon was removed alive, MTA officials said.

Trains went express for about an hour while the power was off and didn’t resume local service until early afternoon.

Straphangers took to Twitter with such comments as, “Maybe this brake-activating raccoon should be put in charge of the L train tunnel project.”
