Rage in NY’s Little Egypt
Little Egypt shuddered in fury.
Dozens of Egyptian immigrants gathered yesterday in preparation of a celebration, but ended the day stunned by the refusal of Egypt’s President Hosni Mubarak to step down.
“The whole nation is on fire,” fumed Samy El-Sharkawy, 58, of Queens.
The New York transplants flocked to the Egyptian Cafe in Astoria in a festive, congratulatory mood as they began watching al-Jazeera and al-Arabiya TV reports.
But they fell silent when Mubarak spoke, and, much like the crowd in Cairo, began banging tables with their fists and chanting “No, no, no!” and “Get out!”
