Mayor Bloomberg wasn’t going to allow the new fire commisisoner to repeat the mistake he made in taking the oath of office for a third term.

In swearing-in Salvatore Cassano today at FDNY headquarters, the mayor instructed:

“Raise your right hand and repeat after me, left hand on the Bible.”

Bloomberg famously forget to place his own hand on the Bible when he was sworn in at City Hall by Jonathan Lippman, the state’s chief judge.

Aides later said the mayor left his left hand at his side because Lippman hadn’t told him to place it on the Bible.

So Bloomberg wasn’t taking any chances this time around.
