L’il Wayne “Got Money” — and now two hip-hop stars who collaborated on the hit song want their cut.
Play-N-Skillz — the stage name for brothers Juan Carols Salinas Jr. and Oscar Salinas — say in Manhattan federal court that they haven’t gotten their share of the proceeds from the song.
Their lawsuit seeks “no less than $1 million” in damages.
Play-N-Skillz accuse L’il Wayne of stealing instrumental and vocal sounds from a song they cut in late 2007 called “Count My Money.”
L’il Wayne allegedly used the riffs from Play-N-Skills for “Got Money,” which he performed with T-Pain. The song was released in 2008 on the album “Tha Carter III’ and as a single.
“Tha Carter III” sold millions of copies and was named Best Rap Album at the 2008 Grammy Awards. “Got Money” was one of several hit singles on the album.
Play-N-Skillz’ lawyer declined comment. A spokesman for L’il Wayne — whose real name is Dwayne M. Carter Jr. — could not be reached.
