Fewer than a million people visited the city’s 32 recreation centers in the first four months of the fiscal year for the first time since 2008, according to new Parks Department figures.

The drop comes a year after the centers’ annual membership fees were doubled to as much as $150.

Admissions totaled 929,233 from July 1 to Oct. 31, 2012, a 7.2 percent decrease from the same period in 2011 (1,001,683 visitors).

“I think the price has had some impact,” said Holly Leicht, head of New Yorkers for Parks, an advocacy group.
