Don’t speed off in that rental car just yet. Rental companies still let customers borrow vehicles that have been recalled — and Sen. Charles Schumer wants the practice to end.

Car dealers can’t sell cars subject to recall — but no law prevents Hertz, Avis or other companies from renting them.

“We need to keep these cars off New York roads until they are fixed,” Schumer said yesterday.
