The Long Island Rail Road has fired an engineer accused of allowing a passenger to operate a train.
The railroad said it conducted an internal review, and concluded Ronald Cabrera failed to protect passengers, the public, fellow workers and himself.
Cabrera is accused of letting passenger William Kutsch drive a train carrying nearly 400 riders during rush hour in July at speeds up to 80 mph.
