Seven Rikers Island inmates have been indicted for allegedly pummeling another jailbird — and then pouring a pot of boiling water on him, authorities say.
Suspects Trequan Campbell, Jeremiah Melendez, Kevin Faneus, Jhoan Green, Jamik Johnson, Luis Rivera and Jalen White were indicted Thursday on charges of assault, gang assault, unlawful imprisonment and possession of a weapon, said Bronx District Attorney Darcel Clark in a news release.
The inmates allegedly first overpowered a correction officer in Housing Area 6 of the Robert N. Davoren Center around 2:30 p.m. June 23 and then trashed its dayroom and attacked the other prisoner, the Bronx DA said.
As the inmates punched and stomped on their victim, Rivera allegedly grabbed a large pot and poured boiling water over the man, authorities said.
The victim suffered second-degree burns on 20 percent of his body, according to the DA.
Bronx Supreme Court Judge Lester Adler ordered Thursday that Johnson remain remanded and set bail at $200,000 for Green. The others have not been arranged, court records show.
