Sixteen correction officers suffered minor injuries after 25 inmates at Rikers Island attacked them yesterday, officials said.

Two unrelated inmate fights began at 6:20 p.m. in the area holding suspects awaiting trial. When officers tried to break up the melees, the inmates turned on them.

The injuries were not life-threatening. One officer suffered a lacerated forehead, and others were taken to a Queens hospital, limping and with bandaged heads.
