ALBANY — A pro boxer was sentenced yesterday to three years in prison for joining a drug-trafficking conspiracy that shipped tons of marijuana into the United States and sent millions of dollars to Canadian suppliers.

A federal jury in Albany convicted Andrey Nevsky, 26, of trafficking conspiracy last year, but acquitted him of money-laundering and smuggling charges.

The Russian émigré, who came to the United States on a student visa in 2005 and lived in the greater Boston area, has spent nearly two years in local jails in New York.

With that time already served plus deductions for good behavior, Nevsky is expected to get out of prison within 10 months and will be deported, said his lawyer, Brian Barrett.

Nevsky compiled a 7-0 record as a middleweight boxer.
