For a while yesterday, this cute baby seal looked as if he was all washed up.

He was first spotted, tangled in a fishing net, by someone taking an early-morning stroll on the beach in Port Lookout, LI “It couldn’t even move,” said Nassau Police Sgt. Michael Lehmann.

“I don’t think it could have lived very long.”

So special forces were called in to rescue the seal — workers from the Riverhead Foundation for Marine Research.

They rushed him to their lab, where they got him untangled, named him Copperfield, and set him free.

They also equipped the pup with a transmitter (shown above on his back) — so his further adventures can be followed on the foundation’s Facebook page or its Web site, Riverheadfoundation.org.
