PISCATAWAY, N.J. — Rutgers University is looking to fill its field of dreams with the sound of music.
The school has requested proposals from promoters to stage concerts and other events in its nearly 53,000 football stadium.
Athletic Director Tim Pernetti says the idea is to raise money to balance the athletic budget and to pay down some of the $102 million debt from the stadium’s expansion.
Rutgers had to borrow the money to add 12,412 seats when plans to raise $30 million in private donations failed to generate much interest.
The athletic director also wants to overhaul and expand Rutgers’ basketball arena and build a new practice facility.
