Rx tracker to stop addicts
ALBANY — The state will create an online tracking system for filling prescription drugs that’s aimed at stopping addicts from doctor-shopping, officials announced yesterday.
The proposal calls for electronic prescribing of most controlled substances.
It would require doctors to consult the registry before prescribing or dispensing controlled substances most likely to be abused, with some exemptions, and it would give pharmacists access to the registry before filling controlled-substance prescriptions.
