Saddle up for NYRA hearings
ALBANY — Two senators who head key committees said last night they will hold hearings to probe the New York Racing Association’s claim that it’s too broke to run the Belmont Stakes.
Senate Gaming Committee Chairman Eric Adams (D-Brooklyn) said he and Investigations Committee Chairman Craig Johnson (D-LI) want NYRA to explain why it wants a $30 million bailout a year after getting a $105 million infusion of state aid.
“We bailed out NYRA,” Adams said. “Were we wrong? Let’s do an analysis and find out what we’re doing with our money.”
