Ex-Police Commissioner Howard Safir will not face charges for hitting a pregnant woman with his SUV on the Upper East Side last month, the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office announced yesterday.
Safir struck Joanne Valarezo, 30, of The Bronx, while backing into a parking space. After driving off, he told investigators that he was unaware he had hit anyone.
Police cleared of him of any wrongdoing, but the DA’s office opened its own investigation.
His lawyer, Martin Pollner, said Safir was “pleased that the episode was over.”
