An Irish immigrant who dreamed of coming to America was feared drowned yesterday in a freak boating accident four months arriving in New York.
Eoin Curran, 30, a programmer for Google, was taking his first sailing lesson on Long Island Sound off Larchmont when a sudden squall blew in at about 3:30 p.m. Sunday. Two of the four people on the sailboat were pitched into the rough waters. One managed to scramble back on board.
An instructor threw Curran a flotation device, but he disappeared. He was not wearing a life jacket.
“He’s the nicest person you’ll ever know,” said his roommate, Marcal Garolera.
When they first met in Ireland a few years ago, he said, Curran spoke of moving to America and did so as soon as he could.
“Eoin is the smartest person I know,” a shaken Garolera said last night at their Brooklyn apartment.
