Disgraced ex-politician John Sampson may have been convicted by a federal jury, but he doesn’t think that should stop him from missing his daughter’s college graduation.
Lawyers for the former state Senator from Brooklyn filed a letter Monday asking a judge to push back his surrender date to May 18 so he can attend the ceremony.
Sampson, 51, is scheduled to surrender April 21. The New York City graduation ceremony is slotted for May 16 and 17, according to the letter, which also notes that prosecutors object to the request.
An appeals court last week ruled Sampson will not be permitted to remain out on bail pending appeal.
The Democrat was found guilty in July 2015 of conspiracy to obstruct justice and lying to federal agents for skimming money off foreclosure deals he’d been entrusted to monitor, and then accepting a questionable loan to cover up the missing cash.
He was sentenced to five years in prison this past January.
