Disgraced former state Sen. John Sampson will be set free — for a night.

The embezzling legislator, who will be sentenced July 22, requested that the court allow him to drive his daughter to a high-school basketball tournament in Maryland. Sampson’s attorneys handed in the request just two days before the weekend excursion. Pretrial services reluctantly obliged but chided the felon on his procrastination.

“This belated request is made but one business day before the expected travel, which hardly gives either Pretrial Services or the Court to consider the request,” court papers say.
