A man as been arrested for attempted murder after the owner of a San Diego-area home adorned with Trump flags and other pro-American regalia was brutally attacked outside the well-known property.
Thomas Caleb Butler, 32, was arrested over the attempted murder of a 69-year-old man, believed to be the owner of the property, on Wednesday after responding to a violent attack on East Mission Avenue and Buchanan Street in Escondido about 2:15 p.m.
The victim suffered significant injuries and is now in hospital in a critical condition, police said.
The California Post identified the victim as 69-year-old Kerry Sheron. He owns the “Trump House” and is an Army veteran, according to his Facebook page.

In a March video, Sheron showed the outside of his Trump and American flag display in tatters.
“Somebody decided that our stuff is not good. Incredible, look at this. They even ripped up the American flag, how f–ked up is that,” he said. He repaired the display later, saying “some a–hole” that hates “the world” ripped the banners.
Butler, of Escondido, fled the scene on foot before officers arrived but was nabbed nearby and taken into custody.
The alleged attacker had not been arraigned as of Thursday morning and is ineligible for bail, according to booking records.
He faces life in prison if convicted on charges of felony first-degree attempted murder.

Comments online indicate the home had become a target of hostility in the neighborhood.
“My buddy lived down the street from him. Whenever I went to visit, I made sure to swing by that place and shout stuff at them,” one post read.
Butler’s next court appearance is scheduled for Friday.
