A city sanitation worker was injured Friday morning when a gas tank exploded during garbage collection in Brooklyn, sources said.
The Department of Sanitation crew was hauling trash in front of a home on 12th Street near 7th Avenue in Park Slope at about 7 a.m. when they picked up a black plastic bag with a 252-liter Balloon Time helium tank inside, the sources said.
The operator then pulled the lever to move the garbage to the truck’s container — when the tank exploded, the sources said.
The operator was taken to Methodist Hospital in stable condition with ringing in his ears, a cut on his chin, and debris in his eye.
