ALBANY — Wildlife biologists studying a mystery ailment killing off bats are repopulating hibernation caves by bringing 79 healthy little brown bats to two hard-hit caves in Vermont.

“White-nose syndrome,” perhaps caused by a fungus in caves, has killed up to 500,000 bats in the eastern United States over several winters.
