A young baseball player in New Jersey was struck in the chest with a ball today and had to be rushed by air to a local hospital, according to a report.

The 8-year-old child, who was playing in Harrington Park, NJ, stopped breathing momentarily after the 2 p.m. injury, the Cliffview Pilot reported.

A passerby performed CPR and the boy was resuscitated before being flown to Hackensack University Medical Hospital in Westwood.

The child was rushed inside the hospital about 20 minutes after the injury.

Although the boy’s eyes rolled back into his head after the strike, he later regained consciousness and is “appeared stable and alert,” Harrington Park Police Chief Albert Maalouf told The Cliffview Pilot.
