Eric Schneiderman’s defense lawyer expressed confidence Thursday that he wouldn’t be prosecuted over the assault claims that forced him from office — but vowed to fight “vigorously” if he gets charged.

In her first public statement since getting hired by the former attorney general, lawyer Isabelle Kirshner said Schneiderman “appreciates the serious allegations against him and we will respond to them at the proper time.”

“While we are confident that this investigation will result in no criminal charges, should charges be brought, we intend to defend our client vigorously,” she said.

Schneiderman quit his office in disgrace after the New Yorker magazine on Monday published allegations by three ex-girlfriends — two of whom spoke on the record — who said Schneiderman had subjected them to “non-consensual physical violence,” including choking and slapping.

A fourth woman, identified only as a prominent lawyer, also said Schneiderman slapped her in the face when she rebuffed his advances.

In a statement issued before he resigned, Schneiderman said he had “engaged in role-playing and other consensual sexual activity” with his lovers, but never “assaulted anyone.”
