State Attorney General Eric Schneiderman on Thursday named the team that will handle his new special-prosecutor duties to investigate cases in which police kill civilians.

Alvin Bragg, the executive deputy attorney general for social justice, will head the unit.

“We will work with local law-enforcement authorities,” Schneiderman said. “We expect the cooperation of the district attorneys.”

But the Association of Prosecuting Attorneys responded that local prosecutors understand their constituents and local nuances better and should be the ones handling the cases.
