School-aid loss
The city Department of Education lost out on its bid for $40 million in competitive federal funds to open 150 new small schools in the coming years, officials said yesterday.
However, the city pulled in nearly $10 million — out of what was essentially a $650 million side-car to the larger Race to the Top competition — to expand a program that targets instruction to each student and another that infuses the arts into lessons for special-education kids.
