Sen. Charles Schumer has a hefty war chest on hand — and it only got fatter in the last quarter, as he raked in $2.9 million, according to his campaign finance filing.
That figure is close to double what Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand took in for the same time period. His money appears to put him ahead of every candidate for senate – among both incumbents and their challengers – nationwide.
And Schumer has an eyepopping $19 million in cash on hand, the filing shows.
Schumer’s numbers – depending on which public poll you believe – have either suffered a bit or a lot recently amid a national anti-Democrat, anti-incumbent wave of voter anger.
CNBC pundit Larry Kudlow is seriously looking at challenging Schumer in the general election. But while Schumer could get dented with an actual challenge, the cash should provide a strong firewall.
