Sen. Charles Schumer has asked US Attorney General Loretta Lynch to “aggressively” push Australian authorities to extradite an accused killer back to Brooklyn to face murder charges.
The move comes a week after The Post broke the story of the victim’s widow pleading to have the suspect returned.
Schumer (D-NY) penned a letter to Lynch last week urging her to “redouble” her efforts to “promptly extradite” Abakar Gadiyev, who was arrested two years ago in Australia after the 2009 murder of Brighton Beach shopkeeper Vladimir Tolstykh.
“Given the violent nature of this crime and the clear standards set forth in the US-Australian extradition treaty, I urge you to use all tools at your disposal to aggressively pursue the prompt extradition of Mr. Gadiyev to the US so that he can be tried,” Schumer wrote.
