Sen. Chuck Schumer will nominate veteran federal prosecutor Robert Capers for the position of United States attorney for the Eastern District of New York, the senator said Thursday.
Capers, who comes from a family steeped in law enforcement, will fill the role vacated by freshly confirmed US Attorney General Loretta Lynch.
Capers, a 44-year-old former NYU basketball player, currently serves in the public-integrity section of the office and recently earned a corruption conviction against former Assemblyman William Boyland Jr.
Capers’ father and brother were NYPD cops.
