Fresh from a winter that slammed the metropolitan area with three major storms in four months, Sen. Charles Schumer (D-NY) is pressing the Federal Emergency Management Agency to expedite disaster aid.

In December, the region saw upward of two feet of snow in some areas, yet FEMA denied an aid request. A spokeswoman said FEMA was helping the state with an appeal.

New York also has asked for aid for the rain and wind that left thousands without power in mid-March. The feds are still weighing that request.

Estimates for both storms top $75 million, according to Schumer’s office, and that figure is expected to rise once reporting comes in from this week’s rainstorm. The requests cover the five boroughs, Long Island and Hudson Valley counties.
