New Yorkers desperately trying to reach 911 should be able to contact an operator through text message, said Sen. Charles Schumer, who’s demanding the federal government fast-track the technology.
Schumer Sunday called on the Federal Communications Commission to bring federal, state and city governments together with phone-service carriers to implement the program.
“In times of danger, when you cannot speak, you may need to text,” he said.
