And in some good news for Suffolk County Executive Steve Levy, his team just announced he’d peeled away a county from GOP gubernatorial rival Rick Lazio, as he flipped the Schuyler County GOP to his own side.

The endorsement came from Schuyler GOP chairman Phil Barnes, according to Team Levy, who added in a statement, “Steve Levy’s unwavering commitment to fiscal conservativism is tailor made for cleaning up New York State’s finances.”

The county has a minor portion of the weighted vote – .21 percent, the second-smallest next to Hamilton – and it doesn’t do much to get Levy closer to 50.01 percent. But it does give him a boost as he’s trying to recapture the out-of-the-gate momentum he had when he announced his candidacy weeks ago.

It also digs back into the criticisms that Lazio is also struggling to light a fire with party leaders.
