City Comptroller Scott Stringer wants President Obama to declare the plaza outside the Stonewall Inn a national monument.

In a letter sent to Obama on Friday, Stringer outlined his case for the West Village gay bar, considered by many as the birthplace of the modern LGBTQ movement because of the 1969 riots that took place there.

However, private businesses are ineligible for national-monument recognition, hence Stringer’s push for Christopher Park, a patch of green across the road from the bar, to get the title.
