The family of a Navy SEAL wannabe who died in a freak accident at a city pool in Staten Island is blaming the lifeguards for his death.

Bohdan Vitenko, 21, had been performing breath-holding exercises with Air Force recruit pal Jonathan Proce in Lyons Pool in Tompkinsville in July 2011 when both men went into cardiac arrest and died.

Vitenko, training for the Navy, and Proce had previously done similar exercises, and the “dangerous activity” was “open and obvious,” the Manhattan suit says, adding lifeguards should have stopped the men. The city Law Department had no comment.
